For a fairer, greener Wirral Council budget
Total funding for Wirral Council has gone up from £330.6 million last year to £363.2 million for next financial year - an increase of £32.6 million.
So that’s a 10% increase to the Council’s funding in one year, which is about the rate of inflation. And yet we seem to be faced with these financial challenges.
I’m hoping that officers can come forward with more suggestions to balance the budget in line with the Green Party’s priorities. In case you haven’t seen them yet, our priorities are to have a fairer and greener Council budget for next year.
There are five priorities:
To improve services for the most vulnerable
To reduce emissions in line with Council and Wirral-wide annual targets.
To have no cuts to valued frontline services
To reduce the gap between the highest and lowest paid council employees and contracted workers.
No compulsory redundancies.
